Date: 14th September 2018
Time: 5.00 pm

The flood that caused massive devastation across Kerala has left behind several scars that will impact the people and their lives for a while yet. As part of ICACC-2018 a PANEL DISCUSSION on “The Floods, Gadgil and Mullaperiyar: A Scientific and Technological Response” was organised. This panel discussion aimed to bring together who are directly affected or related to the recent floods and natural calamities in Kerala to deliberate on a scientific and technological response. It was very important to understand and take corrective actions towards nature and man-made systems like reservoir networks which includes the perennial question of Mullaperiyar dam. In the ongoing process of rebuilding Kerala, it is very essential to find steps to combine scientific methodology and environmental issues with the ultimate question of life and livelihood of people belonging to those affected areas.

The panellists were:
• Mr P T Thomas MLA, Member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, Thrikkakkara & Advocate of Gadgil Report.
• Dr Muralee Thummarukudy, Chief, Disaster Risk Reduction, UN Environment Program. He is joining us via Skype from Nairobi.
